Alec stood at the bottom of a block of apartments in the suburbs. He looked up and down the evening-darkened street, but there was nobody out. He looked to the building, and then went and opened the door. He went in, and went up to the top floor. He knocked the lock off an un-used flat, and went to the window. He had been here before, and every time they had fixed the door's but not the window's lock. He swung the window out, and climbed up and out too. He found his usual footholds, and slowly but surely made it to the roof. Once there, he sat on the roof and surveyed the surrounding city. He felt calm. He felt peaceful. Something that hardly ever happened, except when he knew he was almost certainly safe.

She followed him silently behind him, crawling up and over the siding of the roof.
"Well, fancy seeing you here." She said smirking. She sat next to him, smoking a cigarette. She offered one to him with a raised eyebrow.
"Don't worry, I'm not on duty, so I can't arrest you." She said winking.

Nighthawk eyed her in an almost bored fashion. He didn't mind if she was there or not. At the offered cigarette, he shook his head. "No thanks, I don't smoke. I've got enough problems with my body, let alone in general, without lung cancer..." He said almost quietly.

She smiled and threw the newly lit cigarette.
"I really got to quit..." She said, shrugging. "You mentioned problems? what kind?" She asked. She didn't mean to sound nosey, nor did she want to. She really wanted to figure out what made this guy tick.

Joe lay back on the roof, and looked up at the evening sky, the first few stars appering in the dark blue void.
"Oh I've been in many a struggle for my life, and many more struggles for someone else's. Those scars remain. Though it's the memories that hount this ghost."

"Oh I know how that feels. There's some memories that never leave, even when you try to forget." She looked down, sighing. "But hell, almost everyone has a bad memory."

"after the bomb anyway..." Nighthawk sighed and thought to himself of those he had lost. One father... One mother... three sisters... And then his grandparents of old age...

She sighed.
"Yeah... It was hard for me too." She also remembered the ones who she had lost, most of all, Nemesis, the one also like her.

Alec thought about the past to himself as he looked up into the darkening sky. Before the bomb, he'd have been able to hear cars... possibly a train or aircraft. He'd have had more problems getting up there, due to alarms...
But now, nothing. Just the odd sound of a dog barking far below.
